Frederick Lanchester’s legacy is worldwide. Learn more about our archive, how the Indian Maharajas favoured the Lanchester cars over Rolls Royce & how the Peaky Blinders series took inspiration from the influential members of the Lanchester family.
Coventry University’s Lanchester Library celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Named after inventor and polymath Dr Frederick Lanchester, he pioneered innovations within automotive, aeronautic and audio technological industries.
The university holds the worlds largest Lanchester archive collection and, to mark the 40th anniversary of the naming of the library, we will be exhibiting archive artefacts not normally available to the public and celebrating the influence of the Lanchesters on Indian architectural heritage and design. The exhibition will be available to view on the 2nd floor of the library.
On Friday 13th Sept in addition to this exhibition, we will be displaying our Coventry built 1932 Lanchester 15/18hp limousine outside the library building, giving the public the opportunity to discover many of its unique features. This award winning restored vehicle is one of only sixteen known to have survived and the only model to reside in its birthplace.
Join us between 11.00am and 3.00pm to find out more about the Lanchester inspirations making connections from Peaky Blinders to Maharajas.
